Welcome to your 'Glimpse of Assam with Meghalaya' tour! On arrival at the airport / railway station in Guwahati, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Shillong. Shillong became the first capital of the State of Meghalaya. Located in undulating pine covered hills, the city has a milder climate than tropical India. The city centre is 1496 m above sea level and currently has a population of around 270,000. Home to several waterfalls, it is also known as theScotland of the East. We stop to visit the Umiam Lake (Private) also known as 'Bara Pani' which is a vast and scenic reservoir surrounded by lush green hills. It is also a popular destination for water sports. On arrival, check in to the hotel in Shillong.
After breakfast enjoy local sightseeing tour of Shillong, ‘Scotland of the East’. We will be visiting Cathedral Church, Lady Hydari Park, the Orchidarium, Elephant Falls 7 the Golf course. Thereafter, we will drive to the shilling peak to enjoy a splendid view of Shillong. Overnight stay at the hotel in Shillong.
After a hearty breakfast, drive to Cherrapunjee (4,400 ft.) the wettest place in the world .and check in the Hotel.Later in the afternoon, proceed on a city tour of Cherrapunjee.We visit the beautiful and the tallest plunge waterfall in India known as Nohkalikai Falls. Enjoy the sight of water rushing down from 1,100 feet through the green forest into a deep waterhole which has unusually blue water like a lagoon.Overnight stay in Cherrapunjee.
After breakfast we take a short trek through some of the amazing terrain and watching a great variety of birds as we reach the entrance of Mawsmai Caves. This limestone caves have the distinction of being the only cave in Meghalaya that are lit enough to enable visitors to explore the natural formations in awe. Then, visit the Seven Sister Falls also known as 'Nohsngithiang Falls' is a seven segmented waterfall which plunges over the top of a limestone cliff. The view is spectacular which leaves one spell bound. Lastly, visit the Elephant Falls for some breathtaking views. A British officer, named this falls owing to the presence of an elephant shaped rock on one side of the falls. This rock was later destroyed due to an earthquake. At Elephanta Falls, one can get very close and enjoy its serenity. After Cherrapunjee tour we return back to Shillong.
